The
European Network of P4 laboratories was created in 2005, when it received a
3-year funding (EURONET-P4 project) to
enhance and maintain cooperation, communication and exchange
of information between European Bio-safety Level 4 (BL4)
laboratories. This in order to enable a rapid, effective and
coordinated responses to health threats to European
population resulting from natural infection by class 4
agents or their deliberate release.
In 2006 the Network was granted a further
3-year grant to continue its activities (ENP4Lab) in
promoting harmonisation and standardisation of Biosafety
practices and diagnostic procedures, and to offer assistance
to countries where new BSL-4 laboratories are under
construction or planned.
